Willie James Hunter, 72, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, March 20, 2026 at 1 pm at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary.Willie James Hunter was born June 27, 1953. He was raised in Crosby by his mother Ceola Hunter. He attended Lubbock High School and later married Bobbie Sue Hunter in 1974.

He worked at the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, paint shop, and Bender Terrance Nursing Home. He liked riding his motorcycle, fishing and partying. He was full of life and the life of the party. He enjoyed music, dancing, and telling jokes. He was a very good artist. He got real close to God and was grateful for his blessings. He always said pray before you do anything.

Willie is preceded in death by his siblings Napleon Baker, Eola Hawkins, Lillie Booner, Ethel Williams, and MC Hunter.

Willie leaves behind to cherish memory, his wife Bobbie Sue Hunter, his daughters Michelle Hunter and Shay McGaha, his sons Corneluis Hunter and Patrick Woodruff, his brothers Terry Hunter and Ruben Baker, his grandchildren ShaKayla Neloms, Corneluis Hunter Jr., Tyrese Hunter, Zackavey Hunter, and Champagne Hunter, his brothers-in-law Marvin Williams, Charlie Bonner, and Wayne Hawkins, his nieces Elizabeth Camphor, Lorine Ellis, Joann Sykes, and Shirley Anderson, his nephews David Sykes, James Sykes, Tyrone Jones, Marvin Williams Jr., Ruben Baker Jr., Kenneth Baker, Jerome baker, and Lamonte Baker, and a host of other relatives, and friends.
