Affectionately known to all as “Dub”, William was born on April 17, 1953, in Colorado City, Texas, to proud parents Willie Myrtle and Fredrick Douglas Washington. He grew up in Lubbock, Texas, graduating in 1972 from Dunbar High School before attending Langston University in Oklahoma. Early in life, Dub accepted Christ and dedicated himself to his family’s legacy church, Carter Chapel, remaining faithfully devoted to his faith and church home throughout his life.
Dub was truly one of a kind - with his smooth charm, infectious laugh, and loving spirit, he brought warmth, humor, and easy conversation wherever he went, naturally drawing people to him. Throughout his working years, Dub was a dedicated employee with Gebo’s and Pittsburgh Paints. Beyond his career, he believed deeply in giving back to his community. He served as a volunteer Boy Scout leader, guiding and mentoring young boys. He also poured his time into reentry volunteer work, walking alongside recently released individuals to assist with doctor appointments, job searches, securing housing and second chances.
William Madison Washington transitioned peacefully from his earthly home into eternal rest Thursday, October 8, 2026. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick Douglas & Willie Myrtle Washington, and younger brother, David Washington.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Cynthia Washington; brothers Frederick Washington (partner Cindy), Victor Washington (Robbin), Anita Durley, Josephus Blackmore(Louise), Joe Washington (Jeanna), Victor Washington (Robbin), and James Palmer; daughters Kayla Dillard (Ron) & LoNita Sharp; grandchildren Sheendra, Jordan and Kennady Dillard; and great-grandson Kade Dillard and a host of other relatives and friends.
