Sammy Lee Jones, 59, departed this life on Monday, July 28th, 2023. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, August 11th, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Viewing will be held Thursday, August 10th, 2023, at Griffin Mortuary from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sammy L. Jones was born in Casa Grande, Arizona on November 22, 1963, to Rosa and Edgar Jones. Sammy attended Martin Elementary, Alderson Jr. High, and graduated from Estacado High School. Sammy was a standout football star, but also enjoyed playing pickup basketball with his classmates. Sammy was a Prince fan through and through. He even became a member of the official fan club. In his sophomore year of high school, Sammy entered the food service industry and continued that career path for 24 years and eventually retiring. Sammy enjoyed spending time with family, cooking Mexican food, and working on cars. His favorite meal was good old-fashioned BBQ and Church’s Chicken. Sammy met and married Angela Devroe on July 15th, 2002. From this union they were blessed with three children. Sammy is preceded in death by his wife, Angela “Shakey” Jones; his mother, Rose Jones; father, Edgar Jones; son, Trevon Jones; nieces, Kyera Jones and Alize Henderson; grandmother, Ola Lee Boxton and Ruth Ann Jones; grandfather, Connell Roy and Sammy Jones; aunts, Rosetta Braxton and Sylvia Craddock; uncles, Nathaniel Roy, Roosevelt Roy, Oscar Gray, Sr., and Victor Baxter. Sammy leaves to cherish his memory; sons, Samir Jones, Terrance Johnson, Stephon Jones, Christopher Jones, and Cameron Devroe/Jones; daughters, Tiara Jones and Alaysia Jones; sisters, Cecilia L. Rosser and Consuella (Ivan) Williams; brothers, Charles (Jackie) Jones and Arnold R. Jones; grandchildren, Treginale Jones, Ra’Nya Jones, Samiah Jones, Serenity Jones, Symphoni Jones, Tamaya Johnson, Jazmine Johnson, Darrius McDaniel, Jamison Johnson, Josiah Johnson, Isabella Johnson, Aa’Niyah Jones, Za’Riyah Norris, Stephon Jones, Jr., Tayana Crawford, Antione Anderson, Kyng Jones, and Carmello Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
