Ruby Jewel Hearn, 88, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 11 am at Unity Baptist Church, Plainview, TX. Interment will follow at the Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Ruby Jewel Hearn was born March 7, 1938, in Blossom, Texas. She was one of the beloved daughters of Reverend Sam and Martha Jane Hearn. She was a Christian and a member of Happy Union Baptist Church for many years where she served as an usher and sang in the choir under the Leadership of the Reverend Sam Hearn, Willie Johnson, J.V. Harris, and Leonard Chatham. She later became a founding member of Full Armor Ministries of Lubbock, Texas under the Leadership of Bishop Leonard Chatham in 2001.

Ruby graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Plainview, Texas. She was a twirler and enjoyed playing sports. Ruby was a caregiver by profession with a very strong work ethic. Her dedication was evident in her work where she received accolades as a valued employee.

Ruby loved her family. She adored her parents, Sam and Martha Jane Hearn. Her siblings Mary B. Bledsoe, Jimmy Green, James William Green, Lois Mosley, Nathaniel Hearn, Odell Hearn, James D. Hearn, Arma Lee Gentry, Mary Lee Whitten, Charles Nelson Hearn, George Earl Hearn, Betty Lou Hearn, Florida Mae Coleman, Theldoris Hearn all of whom preceded her in death were very dear to her. Rhodie Elizabeth (Herbert) Stewart, the last remaining sibling, is left to cherish her memory.

She also leaves to cherish her memory, children Jerry Dale Hearn, Demetreia Renee Hearn of Lubbock, Texas, Gregory Lance (Linda) Hearn, Euvada Sharonae (Leonard) Chatham, Brandon Eric Hearn of Plainview, Texas, Michelle Ann Hearn of Dallas, Texas. Stepchildren Jerome (Shirley) Carter, Joey Carter of Lubbock, Texas. She is preceded in death by sons Mitchell Dewayne (Cynthia) and Richard Kevin (Demetreia Renee) Hearn. Grandchildren Shaila Lawson, Donnetra Williams, Brodrick Jackson, Evan and Lyndra Hearn, Melissa Hallman-Hearn, Sydney and Taivia Hearn, Kellen and Chelsea Hearn, Emmily and Gillian Chatham, Kiaree Love-Chatham. Justin Hearn, Leonard Rashad and Rashonda Lynn Chatham preceded her in death. Great Grandchildren Jaziah, Zakiah, and Kayan Lawson, Jordyne, Jaxsyne, Jensyne Hearn, Trinity, Christany, Kashton, Brixton, and Princeton Hearn, Iyannah Coppage, and Brianna McFadden. Great-Great Grandchildren A’nyus Stanley, Ruby D. Hearn, Zuri Renea Coppage. T’yana Marie Coppage preceded her in death.

Special nieces and nephews that were very dear to Ruby as she helped to raise them as her own Allen Gene Hearn (preceded her in death) Gwendolyn Dionne Mosley, Crystal Loraine Thomas, and Gary L. Green. As well as a host of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Mamma Ruby’s memory will live fondly and effortlessly in our hearts. Her example of what it means to be a servant leader of Christ, everlasting presence and warmth for family and a loving caregiver has been instilled. Her mark on our lives will forever be felt.
