Robert Lee “Bone” Tillmon, a strong and philosophical man, a husband, brother, father, uncle, friend and longtime resident of Lubbock, TX died on April 8 th , 2026 at the age of 81. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11 am at Lyons Chapel Baptist Church. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Bone was born to Lacy and Roberta Jones Tillmon on June 21, 1944 in Marshall, TX. Growing up he attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and received his diploma from Borger High School in Borger, TX in 1962. He attended Bishop College to study medicine and met his first wife Roceythia Tillmon Pollard in his junior year. They moved to Amarillo, TX and Bone worked for the Celanese Chemical Co. in Pampa. Their marriage yielded two children Robert “Chief” Tillmon and Robinette Lorraine Tillmon. He later worked for Pantex in Amarillo and eventually ended up at Phillips
Petroleum Co in Borger, TX working as a Booster Engine Mechanic. Bone took an early retirement option from Phillips and began world travel, spending time in Colorado and California and then back to TX. In Colorado, he pursued a degree in Sports Medicine and then moved to Ridgecrest, California where he worked for Kerr McGee. Moving back to Colorado, he worked for United Airlines and Sysco Foods.
After marrying his third wife Linda Hampton Tillmon, Bone returned to Texas and returned to doing what he loved, which was working with children. He began driving for the Lubbock school district and then later drove activity buses for the band and athletics. Linda and Bone had two children, Timothy Tillmon, Felicia Taylor and a bonus son Amos Hampton.
Bone loved to be active playing cards or dominoes, golfing, traveling, gambling, and rooting for the Cowboys. He loved teaching math and solving Sudoku problems. He even did some substitute teaching. He was always involved in community endeavors such as being president of the Softball league or President of the NAACP or organizing annual Special Olympics.
On April 8, 2026, Bone answered God’s call home. He was preceded in death by his parents Lacy Tillmon and Roberta Tillmon-Shaw, daughter Felicia Tillmon-Taylor, brothers Wayne Conict-Tillmon, K.P. Tillmon, George Tillmon, LT Tillmon, Rogers Tillmon, sisters Margaret Monroe, Mary Lou Daniels, and Loraine “B.B.” Tillmon-Carden. Bonus siblings: Joyce Tillmon, Pauline Walton, Zeta Collins.
He is survived by his wife Linda Hampton-Tillmon, sons Robert “Chief” Tillmon of Tyler, TX and Timothy Tillmon of Orange County, CA and bonus son Amos Hampton of Lubbock, TX, and daughter Robin Tillmon of Tyler, TX; grandchildren, Timothy Tillmon, Kieves Tillmon, Trinity Tillmon, Linda Tillmon, Autumn Tillmon, Sabel Taylor, Ronnie Taylor, Ryland Taylor, Skylynn Taylor, Chelsea Mapp, Whitney Mapp, Ashley Saggs, Tina Marie Rice, Marquisa Fritze, Jordan Monge; brother Bobby Tillmon; sisters Helen
Moore (Robert), Marie Sherwood, and Mary Penns; sisters in love Dorothy Tillmon and Wilma Tillmon; Bonus siblings: George Hearon(Crystal), Vincent Hearon, Dean Hearon, James Hearon Jr. (Mary), Lola Hearon, Carolyn Collins, Trudy Woods (Don), Andrea Keys. 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.
