Rene D. Alvarado "Nuno", 51, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Viewing will be held Friday, March 13, 2026 from 1 pm to 2 pm at Griffin Mortuary Chapel. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Rene “Nuno” D. Alvarado came into the world in Lubbock in 1974 to Janie and Rene Dominguez Sr. He attended Estacado High School and Texas Tech University, where he was part of the “Goin Band” from Raiderland. He found his calling in education as a substitute teacher at Lubbock ISD, Lubbock Cooper ISD, and Frenship ISD, where he excelled in student learning and assisting administration. He also loved volunteering at Upland Mission Church, although he was there for only a short time, he made a huge impact.
A true Disney fan, Rene found his happiest place on earth at Disneyland. As a dedicated annual passholder, he visited the park over 100 times making countless memories on Main Street USA. He brought joy and laughter to everyone around him and believed in the power of fairy tales. He passed away peacefully, taking that final ride to the Magic Kingdom in the sky and always lived by Walt Disney's words: “If you can dream it, you can do it.”
Rene married his prince, best friend, and the love of his life, Joe Joseph Alvarado Jr. They spent all of their time together making memories, their love for each other is what fairy tales are made of.
Rene is preceded in death by his grandmother Guadalupe “Lupe” Contreras and his sister Rebecca Dominguez.
Rene is survived by his husband Joe Joseph Alvarado Jr., his faithful canine companion Cheeto Beans, his mother Janie Dominguez, his father Rene Dominguez Sr., his daughter Emily Dominguez, his brother Michael Dominguez (Jewelz Garcia), his sister Patricia Dominguez, family members Norma and Tim Trevino, Belen and Edward Cervantes, Adam Domingues, Lisa Dominguez, Alfonso Jr Contreras, X’evanie Zavala, Serena, Michael Zavala, and Jeremiah Dominguez, and a host of other relatives and friends.
