Ocie Franklin Jr, 85, passed away on May 12, 2026. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Ocie Franklin Jr was born September 28, 1940, to Elizabeth Dunn Kindred and Ocie Franklin Sr. in Littlefield, TX. Ocie never met a stranger. He brought smiles and laughter to all that had the privilege to meet him. Ocie was known for his strong work ethic and comedic personality.
Ocie received his education in the Lubbock Public School System, afterwards he became a dedicated and professional boot maker and shoe repairman.
Making boots by hand for some of the most famous rodeo stars and country western singers like Charlie Thompson, Gene Perkins, Amarilo Slim Waylon Jennings, and Mac Davis, just name a few. Many of West Texas royals wore cowboy boots made by Ocie.
Ocie was employed by Mr. Boston in the 70s. East Lubbock only shoe repairman before going on to work for Ridge Range boots for years. He worked for Charlie Wade boot for almost 20 years where he was cherished for the jewel he was.
After an accident left him with the use of only his right hand. Ocie continued making cowboy boots by hand.
Ocie enjoyed being around family and friends. Everyone that knew hi, knew that he had a love for cigars and bourbon at the end of the day.
Ocie is preceded in death by his wife and longtime friend Annie Bess McGuire, his mother Elizabeth Dunn Franklin, his father Ocie Franklin, his son Otis Franklin, his daughter Sharon McGuire Johnson, hissisters Christelle Franklin, Ella Mae Franklin Childs, Lou Dean Franklin, and Ora Franklin Post, his brothers John L. Franklin, Robert Franklin, and Obie Franklin.
Ocie leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter Cheryl McGuire Walker, (Michael) his sister Opal Franklin Taylor, his brothers leroy Franklin (Lula) and CE Franklin “Pappy”, his grandchildren Mariah Walker, DaQuisha Busby, Teomdra Walker, Terry Franklin Medina, James Johnson Jr., and Tykeedra Johnson, his great grandchildren David Busby, Shardone Carter, Nicolas Busby, Messiah Walker, his great-great grandchildren, Zkay Busby, Kaylani Busby, and AuRon Sanders and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who loved Ocie.
