Mary “Mary Lou” Roberts, 88 of Lubbock, TX passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11am at St. John Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the Direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held Friday, July 17, 2026 from 6pm to 8pm at Griffin Mortuary. Born on July 12, 1938, in Nacogdoches, TX to Ruby Osby and Gives Henry Burrow. She attended school in Nacogdoches, TX at an early age, later moving to Lubbock, TX, she graduated from Dunbar High School in 1957. She was active in annual staff, choral club library secretary, and treasurer. She met the love of her life Mathew Remo Roberts Sr. and married December 19, 1972. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church for over 50 years. She served on the usher board for over 50 years and also over the kitchen for several years.

While we grieve Mary’s absence, we rejoice in God’s promise of eternal life. As one of her favorite scriptures reminds us, “The Lord is our Shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23) for we know “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). We take comfort in knowing that this is not goodbye forever but until we meet again. Mary loved the Lord. Mary cherished her family and friends and always found ways to encourage others through compassion, generosity, and prayer. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched, the memories she created and the love she shared.

Mary was the fifth child of five siblings who all preceded her in death, brothers Henry James Goodwyn and Booker T. Young, sisters Loistene Young and Louise Burrow West.

She leaves to cherish her memories, Joseph Leon Roberts, Christina Yolanda Roberts, Cynthia Roberts Gatewood, and Mathew Roberts (Lesha), grandchildren Sinai, Nikki, Mandre, and Mathew III, ten great grandchildren, nieces Goldie Goodwyn Vaughn, Ruby Goodwyn Robinson, Betty West, and Karen West, special great nieces Tyshunna Robinson and Felisa Goodwyn, nephews Kenneth Burrow (Sylvia), Clifford Burrow (Neil), and Greg West, great nephews James Goodwyn, Victor Brooks, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
