Maria Mercedes Alaniz

Maria Mercedes Alaniz, 78, of Lubbock passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Maria was born on July 8, 1946, in Mathis, Texas, to Fransico R. Rodriquez and Maria Gonzales. On April 3, 1973 she married Rodolfo M. Alaniz. Together they were blessed with seven children, ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Maria was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved sewing and cherished cooking for her family. Maria found immense joy in spending summers with her grandchildren, and had a unique way of loving everyone in her life. Maria is preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Anita Speckman, Francisco Rodriguez, Hector Rodriguez, Jucinta Garcia, and Margarita Blackmon. As well as her two sons: Juan Daniel Alaniz and Alberto Alaniz and great-grandson, Liam Jacob Perez, and a host of other relatives and friends.
