Leon Luton

Leon was born on August 31, 1954, the third of seven children to the parentage of Billy Ray Duncan and Oweasia Marlene Gurley. He attended and graduated from Estacado High School in 1973. He also attended and graduated from Jarvis Christian University in 1979, majoring in sociology and Psychology/Social Welfare. In 1976, Leon and Barbara Jean Maden married, and to this union Tamme Luton was born. Leon work for E.T.I., a government agency branch of East Texas Dept. of Training, as a counselor for underprivileged youth. He went on to work for himself, before working as a store manager for a chain of rent to own stores. He worked as a warehouse manager until he retired. Leon enjoyed outdoor grilling and entertaining his family and friends. He was always the “life of the party”. Leon answered his call to glory on Monday, January 16, 2023. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Luton; parents, Billy Ray and Oweasia Marlene Duncan; sister, Susan, “Suzy Lu” Luton; brother, Billy Ray Smith. He leaves to preserve his memory; his children, LaKisha “Oni” Ahlaam-Woods of Dallas; Tamme (James) Brooks of Houston, LaJuan Luton of Tyler; Tamra Luton-Woods of Callas; LaSheania (Dwain) Luton, Tanya (Bryson) Jackson, Tamla (Adrian) Woods; bonus son, Cedrick Brooks all of Tyler; two brothers; Tony (Molly) Luton and Allan Duncan of Tyler; three sisters; Brenda Manahan and Joanette Duncan both of Tyler; Dawn (Morris) Duncan-Holder of Odessa; 13 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, friends, and acquaintances.
