Leola Morgan Glaspie, 97 passed away on Sunday, November 9th, 2025. Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, November 13th, 2025 at 11 am at Seventh Day Adventist. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Leola Morgan Glaspie was born on August 6,1928 in Waxahachie, TX to Truley and Lula Brewer. She married Phillip Glaspie November 27,1952 and was married to him until his passing in 2002.
Leola and Phillip Glaspie owned and operated their own dry-cleaning business, Ideal A-1 Cleaners, or “The Shop”, for over thirty years. “The Shop” became the central location for the family to meet and catch up on current events. Leola was masterful in doing alterations at the cleaners. Through their hard work and dedication, they were able to bless their church, community, family, and friends. They were always willing to hire people or help those going through hard times whether it was giving a hot meal or a little financial help.
As a longtime member of Martin Luther King, Jr. Seventh Day Adventist Church, Sister Glaspie worked tirelessly as a Sabbath School Teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, Community Service leader, and Deaconess. Sister Glaspie worked alongside her husband with the youth taking them to Camp meetings, Saturday night bowling, and other activities. She hosted numerous visiting pastors in her home for many years making sure they had delicious home-cooked meals and a clean, comfortable bed in which to sleep.
What we loved about Leola was that she loved to shop. She was never a stranger to good garage sales, flea markets, or Dillard’s clearance sales. It was always a big deal to her when the South Plains Fair came to town, and she would take the nieces and nephews and the youth from the church in her van. Leola would out-ride all the kids on the rides. She was fearless and feisty, and only she understood why we called her “Ole Uppercut”. She had a strength that few exhibited having broken her neck, not once, but twice in her lifetime. At her core, she was sweet, kind, and loved to laugh.
Leola is preceded in death by her husband Phillip Glaspie, her son Claudell Morgan, her mother Lula Nealy Brewer, her father Truly Brewer, 13 brothers and sisters.
Leola is survived by her sister Lucy Mae Brewer, her four grandchildren Donna Morgan Smith, Bernita Morgan, Claudell Morgan, Jr., and Denise Morgan, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
