Lee Daniel Harris, 81, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Green Lawn Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Friday, March 7, 2025, at Community Baptist Church from 5 pm to 7 pm. On April 22, 1943, Mable Moody and Vernia Harris welcomed their first child, affectionately named Leo Daniel Harris, in Grant, Oklahoma. However, according to his mother's sister, Aunt Faye, an error was made on his birth certificate, reflecting his legal name as Lee Daniel Harris. The beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend was known by many names: L.D., Shakey, Big Boy, Hauss, Daddy, and Pawpaw.

After the passing of his grandmother, Martha Moody, his grandfather, Richard Moody, relocated to Littlefield, TX. Mable had 13 more children, and the family became a pivotal part of the Lamb County community. While in Littlefield, TX, he met and married Mattie Conwright. The couple relocated to Los Angeles, California, to take advantage of every opportunity the Golden State offered. After spending five years embracing the energy of the West Coast, Mr. and Mrs. Harris chose to return to the quiet charm of West Texas, ultimately planting roots in Lubbock. Leo poured over two decades of his life into a dedicated career at Highland Hospital, where his hard work and leadership propelled him to the supervisor role. More than just a job, his position became a platform for uplifting others—offering employment opportunities and guiding young individuals toward a brighter path through rehabilitation programs.

A true hustler at heart, Leo never limited himself to one avenue of success. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to excel in car detailing and subcontracting for small businesses, always finding new ways to provide for his family and community. His hands were never idle, his heart was always giving, and his impact was deeply felt by those who knew him.

Leo found joy in the thrill of competition and camaraderie, whether shuffling cards at the table, knocking down pins at the bowling alley, swinging a bat on the softball field, or placing his bets at the horse races. His love for the game, in all its forms, was only rivaled by his passion for good company.

Leo cherished nothing more than the warmth of his family, spending countless hours in their presence while staying glued to the latest headlines on CNN and Fox News. A man of endless curiosity and sharp wit, he often called his children with one burning question—"How much is [celebrity name] worth?" His fascination with the fortunes of the rich and famous never faded, always sparking laughter.

His Love for Family & Community

Leo was a God-fearing man who unapologetically served God on his own terms, often saying, "You have to know God for yourself" & "There is a Man above that looks down low.” Leo's love was as real as it gets—expressed through a voice of wisdom, a well-timed joke, or, when necessary, a good old-fashioned cursing out. He believed in keeping it honest, never sugarcoating the truth about the people he cared about. Whether offering advice, setting someone straight, or reminding his family of their worth, his words always came from a place of love. His presence was larger than life, and his guidance—whether gentle or tough—had a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. As a protector and a true big brother, he stood as a pillar of strength for those around him, always ready to defend and uplift his loved ones. His greatest joy was seeing his family soar—he celebrated their wins, pushed them toward their potential, and reminded them that greatness was within their reach.

Surviving Family Members

Leo leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mattie Harris. He was a proud and dedicated father to his children. The "Harris Brats" sons Heath Harris (Yvette) and Dwight Harris (Angela) and his daughters Shana Wade (LaShud) and Dr. Ulrica "Tasha" Kassar (Aref), as well as a father figure to Barry Norris. His love and wisdom will continue through his grandchildren: Tiera Harris, Heather Harris, Heath Harris II, Keeland Conwright, Kayden Bradley, Bianka Kassar, and Kacen Conwright.

Leo is also survived by his loving sisters Martha Anderson, Wilma Jean McCarty, Loretta McCarty, and Ruby Moody, along with his devoted brothers Emroy Moody, Jerry Jackson, and Arthur "Sam" Jackson. His presence will be deeply missed by a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and lifelong friends, all touched by his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.

Preceded in Death

Leo was welcomed into eternal rest by his beloved mother, Mable Moody, and was reunited with his grandsons, Hakeem, Hamilton, and Hunter Harris, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his beloved siblings, Barbara Ann Moody, Charlie Marie Jefferson, Linda Jo Bell, Charles Jackson, and Terry Moody. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit, love, and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
