Leavera Lusk, 95, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 11 am at St. Luke Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Monday, June 22, 2026 from 4 pm to 6 pm at Griffin Mortuary.
Leavera Parks Lusk was born October 15, 1930 to AP and Veola Parks in Buffalo, TX. She married Tysium Lusk in Crockett, TX in 1949. To their union were born 8 children. Leavera, lovingly known as “Granny or GiGi” to most who knew her, worked at the Lubbock State School for 20 years before she retired. She was an original member of First Progressive Baptist Church under the tutelage of Pastor Homer L. Avery. She later became a member of Divine Love Baptist Church, where she loved to attend and pay her tithes. Leavera, the unofficial neighborhood watch lady, enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. She was known for her cornbread dressing, peach cobbler, teacakes, and pound cake. She would throw crumbs out to the birds that she was so avidly loved to watch, most of all, Leavera loved family gatherings. Her door was always open and everyone was always welcome because “she paid $311.24 a month!”
Leavera is preceded in death by her parents AP and Veola Parks, her husband Tysium Lusk, her three sons Alfred, Willie, and Tonie Lusk, one daughter Veola Henry, three grandsons Patrick Lusk, Roger Lusk, and Eugene Cooper, one granddaughter Nikki Lusk, two great great granddaughters D'Nyla Samuels and Skye Eleanor Dedrick, one brother Odell Parks, and one sister Theoris Parks.
Leavera leaves behind to cherish her memory, two sons Tysium (TJ) Lusk of Lubbock, TX; and Roger Lusk (Sharon) of Slaton, TX; two daughters Annie Menton (Michael) and Laverne Lusk (Larry) both of Lubbock, TX; 92 grandchildren, great-grandchilden, great-great grandchildren, who includes one special grandson Paris (Laskisha) Robinson, three special friend Anna Chatman, Marie Shelby, and Donna Kay Williams, and a host nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
