Latricia Shermone Guess, 43, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at First Progressive Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary. Latricia Shermone Guess was born on December 30, 1982, in Lubbock, Texas, to James Guess and Shirley Manuel. Tricia was also lovingly raised by her stepfather, Robert Kinney. Latricia attended Estacado High School, where she took pride in being a sports manager and participating in all school events. She also attended South Plains College. Shawty was the light that brightened any room she walked into. She had a heart of gold and was willing to move mountains to help the people she loved. Tricia dedicated her life to raising her two boys and spent most of her time with family and friends. She was the glue that held everybody together—the life of the party. With a smile and laugh as contagious as hers, you couldn’t help but be happy, even in the darkest of days.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Guess; her grandparents, Tony “TR” and Mae Jewell Manuel, Alvin and Ella Mae Guess, Roosevelt Sr. and Estelle Kinney; her brother, Quincy Green; her aunts, Willie Manuel, Lurena Toliver, Delois Guess, and Debra Nathan; her uncles, Roosevelt Jr. Kinney, Danny Kinney, Michael Kinney, and Gary Kinney; and her special cousin, Dedrick Traylor Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her stepfather, Robert Kinney; her mother, Shirley Manuel; her godmother, Sheryl Green; her sons, Brashondrick Dial and Anwon Martin Jr.; her sisters, Shatamara Kinney and Ty’Zhanie Kinney; her brothers, Khari Williams and Kaylon Kinney; her nieces, Fred’Tayvia Tryon, Ray’Zanique Devroe, La’niyah Kinney, Sha’niyah Kinney, and Kamryn Williams; her nephews, Kevondrick Gober and Brandon Kinney; her bonus sons, Trey Griffin and Shaveon Shedd; her special cousins, Denise Willard and Lameshia Murray; her special friend, Jocelyn Lusk; and a host of other relatives and friends.
