Kathleen Joyce McCowin, 73, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. First Baptist Church, Morton, TX. Interment will follow at Morton Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Friday, June 21, 2024, at Griffin Mortuary from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Kathleen Joyce McCowin was born on November 6, 1950, to the Parents of James and Katherine Joyce in Center, Texas. She was the 1st daughter born to this union. When she was born, her Dad said that “She could not possibly be theirs, because she was so beautiful”. They moved from Center Texas to Morton in April 1953. Her education began at the East Side Elementary in Morton until they integrated into the Morton ISD and Kathleen graduated from Morton High School in May of 1970. She then to West Texas State in Canyon, Tx where she majored in History; She also studied Fencing. She later went back to school and obtained her Paralegal degree from West Texas State. Kathleen was a visionary in her own right. She stayed current on current events and women’s rights. She enjoyed reading, family, drawing, shopping for antics. She was quiet but quick whitted. She could tell you off before you saw it coming. Our brother Jim would boss all of us, except Kathleen.
During summer break, while visiting some relatives in Shelbyville, TX, Kathleen met Amos McCowin. Amos and Kathleen Joyce (Fluffy) were married on November 10, 1975, Officiated by Qually Garrett. Born to their union were (2) sons - Jacob and Jason. In 1977 the couple moved to Lubbock, Tx. She worked at Texas Instruments, Nursing Homes, and the Lubbock State School.
She is preceeded in death by her husband Amos McCowin, her parents James and Katherine Joyce; a daughter (baby girl McCowin) and 2 brothers Jim and William
Kathleen is survived by her sons Jacob (Lubbock) and Jason (Larissa) McCowin (Washington, D.C.), her grandsons Jeremiah, Emmanuel, Daniel, and Horeb, her granddaughters Katherine, Ada, and Kimya; 3 brothers, Charles (Resa), Bill (Rene), and Jerry Joyce; 3 sisters Darlene, Theresa, and Pearly (Kyle); aunts Hazel Bolton, Verlene Moore, and Ernestine Evans, Annie Pearl Moore, Stella Moore and Willima Williams, 4 uncles Y.T Patton; Willie Glenn Moore; Gregory Joyce; Kenneth Joyce, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
