Listen to Obituary

Julius E. "Deek" Williams Sr., 65, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 1 pm at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Born to Melvin and Clarice Williams-Taylor, Julius "Deek" Williams relocated to Lubbock as a young child. It was there that he grew up, attending Parkway Elementary and Alderson Junior High before graduating from Estacado High School.

Above all, Deek will be remembered for his peaceful presence. He was a quiet, exceptionally mellow man who didn't need to speak loudly to make an impact. He truly lived by the "Golden Rule," treating others with the genuine kindness and respect he hoped to see in the world. To know him was to experience a steady, quiet warmth.

Grounded in his commitment to Christ, Deek dedicated his life to being an exceptional, stand-up brother, uncle, friend, and father to his two sons, Julius Jr. and Jabaar, who meant the world to him. As the owner/operator of Williams Landscaping and Painting, he was their constant supporter, frequently advising them on the value of independence—encouraging them to be their own boss and always to do their best in any endeavor.

Deek was a man of sharp presentation, always well-kept with a wrinkle-free outfit and one of his many beloved ball caps. More than his style, it was his daily connections that mattered most; those morning meetups over coffee between him and Jabaar will be deeply missed. His laughter will be missed. His life lessons, often shared with Julius Jr. and Jabaar, will be missed. His presence will be missed.

He is preceded in death by his father Melvin Williams Sr., his mother Clarice Williams-Taylor, his brother Melvin Williams Jr., his sisters Brenda Harrison, Cecelia Robinson, and Opal Williams.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory; his sons Julius D. Williams Jr. and Jabaar D. Smith, his sisters Rosa Williams, Teresa Williams, and Elenor Caro, his brothers Robert Taylor and David Taylor, his grandchild Bailey Williams, his bonus grandchildren: Breana and Jalen Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
