Mrs. Josephine Willis Brown "Mammie", 71 passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, January 9, 2026 at 1 pm at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 4pm to 6pm at Griffin Mortuary. Mrs. Josephine Willis Brown was born in Homer, Louisiana November 28, 1954 to China Edward Willis and Willie Mea Willis. They came to Lubbock, TX where she attended Lubbock Schools and she worked at Texas Instruments and was a Healthcare worker and later on in her life she went on to do what she loved doing and that was singing and traveling with the band.
Mrs. Josephine Brown is preceded in death by her father China Edward Willis, her mother Willie Mea Willis, her husband Laymon Brown, her grandson Ronald D. Willis Jr., her brothers Clinton R. Willis, Ronnie C. Willis, and Ruben Gardner.
Mrs. Josephine Brown leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters Tamarra Willis, Anita Gaither (Dewight), Lakita Simpson, and Rhonda Simpson (Anthony), her son Ronald Willis, her sisters Annie Baker, Genva York, Virgie Willis, Betty Willis (Joe), and Janet Mcdew (Randy), her brother China Edward Felton, MRS. her grandchildren Quevon Bell, Helen Wilbon, Alize Simpson, Jazyria Simpson, Aarron Moore, Darron Moore, Jason Robinson Jr., Ja’nia Kinney, Anthony Kinney Jr, Deshonda Willis, Ronaja Willis, Deshawn Liberty York, La’Tia Simpson, David Frazier, Da’Quan Shaw, and Ja’Myria Gaither, her great grandchildren Noah Moore, Phoenix Simpson, Azyria Robinson, Takarius Robinson, Kinjente Shields Jr, Jakyia Wilson, and Jakaden Wilson, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
