Listen to Obituary

Joseph Henry Harris (AKA BOBO), 88, of Lubbock, Texas, was born on August 14, 1937, and peacefully entered eternal rest on March 31, 2026. Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 11am at Griffin Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 2pm to 4pm at Griffin Mortuary. His life was a true reflection of strength, humility, service, and unconditional love—a life that left a lasting imprint on everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

BOBO was known by many as a gentle giant—a man strong in presence, yet soft in spirit. He carried himself with calmness, patience, and quiet dignity. Those closest to him would often say they had rarely, if ever, seen him angry… except for one unforgettable moment out on the lake when David was rocking the boat, knowing Bobo couldn’t swim. Even then, it wasn’t anger—it was love. It was protection. That was Joseph.

At the center of his life was his beloved wife, Mother Katie Mourine Harris, affectionately known as “Sweety,” who preceded him in death in 2014. Together, they built more than a home—they built a legacy. A family rooted in faith, strength, and unity. A foundation that continues to stand today.

Joseph (BOBO) was the definition of a protector and provider. He stepped in and raised seven children who were not his by blood, yet became his in every way that truly mattered. He did not separate them or treat them differently—he chose them, and he chose them every single day.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children: Patricia, Patsy, Paula, Shelia Lynn, Roscoe, David, and Tony, all of whom continue to carry forward the love and foundation he built.

Joseph also leaves behind a host of loving grandchildren and just as many great-grandchildren, each one a living extension of his legacy.

He held a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews, often speaking of them with pride and joy. Rose, Vette, Ella Jean, and many others were dearly loved.

Joseph (BOBO) was a man of action. If something needed fixing, he was there. If a ceiling fan needed installing, he was there. If anyone needed help—family, friend, or foe—he showed up. No hesitation. No conditions.

BOBO was also known for his cooking—especially his homemade rolls, made from scratch and unmatched by many.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mother Katie Mourine Harris; his sisters, Bertha, Louise, and Rosie; his parents; and his brother, James Tate.

Affectionately known as “BOBO,” Joseph Henry Harris will be remembered as the embodiment of love.

We all loved us some BOBO.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
