Johnnie Lee Turner, Sr. 85, left this life on May 11, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Griffin Mortuary Chapel. Private Disposition will follow under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Johnnie Lee Turner, Sr., was born to Robert and Bobbie Turner on April 22, 1939, in Hearne, Texas, where he attended school and later worked. Later in life he met and married Florence Johnson in 1964, whom he loved and adored until death. Their blended family consists of 13 children. Johnnie lived a good life filled with the love of his life Florence and their children. He doted on his grandchildren and spoiled them all, especially Shqn, Chas, and Mika. Johnnie loved to hunt, fish, and sports he introduced his family to. He enjoyed a good conversation about all things. If you wanted to get him riled up, mention the Cowboys!
Johnnie worked in construction and was gone a lot, but in his retirement, he said he was blessed with another baby. His great granddaughter, Jiselle. He was with her daily and spoiled her as much as he could. Family was everything to him and he made certain all of them knew… To be loved by Johnnie Lee was to be loved for a lifetime.
Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents Robert Turner, Sr. and Bobbie Thomas-Turner, sisters Dorothy and Gene Turner, brothers Eligah R. Turner and Charles Turner, sons Melvin Byrd and Johnnie Turner, Jr., daughter Mary Ann, Barbara Ann, special niece Mika Wright.
Johnnie leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Florence Turner, his daughter Bell Huitt, Brenda Johnson, Bobbie (Edward) Clemons, Pearl Huitt, and Angela Huitt, his sons Johnny Turner, Cecil (Nelda) Turner, Willie (Gwen) Johnson, Eligah (Kim) Turner, and Sammy (Linda) Turner, his sisters Mary Helen Turner and Annette Turner, his brothers Robert Turner, Jr., Bobby (Dora Faye) Turner, and Robbie Turner, 24 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
