John Ricky Evans

Lubbock

On Monday, February 5, 2024, John Ricky Evans passed away at Lakeridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 71. 

Viewing will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 10 a.m. Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church. Interment will be at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.  

Uncle Ricky, as he was affectionately known, is survived by his brother Clovis Kerr, Sr.  (Mildred) – Los Angeles, California, niece - Paulethia Michelle Harper – San Antonio, Texas; Nephew - Geoffrey Crawford (Toni) – Sugar Land, Texas, Niece - Lori Montgomery (David) – Charlotte, North Carolina, Nephew – Reginald Kerr (Seleka) –  Ruskin, Florida, Nephew – Craig Crawford – Lubbock, Texas, his Great Nieces and nephews - Natalie  Bell – Denver, Colorado; Brandon Crawford (Jennifer) – San Antonio; Texas, Tamara Bell – Austin, Texas; Quentin Crawford (Lauren) – Charolotte, North Carolina; Clovis Kerr, Jr. – Denver, Colorado,  Alexandria Crawford - Lubbock, Texas; and Stefan Crawford (Valeria) San Antonio, Texas; and several Great-Great Nieces and Nephews Ryan Kindred – Forney, Texas, Breckyn and Shiloh Crawford – San Antonio, Texas and Viviana Crawford of San Antonio, Texas, Ashle Tolbert – Dallas, Texas, Toni Kerr - Plano, Texas, Wesley Kerr – Corpus Christi, Texas, Madison Kerr – Austin, Texas, ReNessa Kerr – Arlington, Texas, and several Great-Great-Great Nieces and Nephews – Jayce Cotton, Zaimya Kerr-Taylor, Destiny, Jaylen and Jaxson Kindred. 

 Let us not forget his Extended Family Claudine Williams, Damonn and Angela Sayles, Ashley and Derrick Odom, Michelle Bouston, Sheila Bolton, Paulette and Beno Scott, Julie White, Sonia and Byron Nelson, Darren Holmes, and Brian Jones, and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Ricky was preceded in death by his Father John S. Evans in 1987, his Mother – Jessie Mae Evans in 2008, his Brother Charles Kerr in 2017 and his Sister Joan Crawford Jones in 2020. 

Ricky was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 60 years. 

He attended Dunbar High School and upon graduating attended Texas Tech University.
