We bid farewell to James Edward Langston, 71, a true friend and beacon of light, who departed this world on August 2, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. James walked through life with a generous soul, touching the lives of everyone he encountered with an unforgettable grace. Celebration of life Service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Viewing will be held Friday, August 9, 2024, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Griffin Mortuary.
James was born on November 13, 1952, to Ben Langston and Geneva Polk Langston. He graduated from Ralls High School . In high school he participated in all sports, excelling in basketball, where he became the first black MVP of the Caprock Tournament.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Ben Langston and Geneva Polk Langston, his sisters Raydell Langston, Joanne Langston, Bernice Langston, and Estella Langston.
James leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Mrs. Barbara Langston of Lubbock, TX, six daughters Sherri Young (David), Stephany, Felisa Goodwyn, Clarise Williams Hudson (Chrismo), Sharonda McDade, and Amari Langston all of Lubbock, TX, stepdaughter Ebony Shepherd also of Lubbock, TX, six sons James Williams (Brandy) James Bishop, James Shondrick Langston, James Langston, Jr., Demitrious Thornton, and Andre Langston all of Lubbock, TX, one sister Shirley White of Cleburne, TX, two brothers Ben “Sonny” Langston, Jr. (Magic) and Ray Langston both of Lubbock, TX, 30 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
