James Earl Ivery, Sr. "Flashlight"-"Monk"

James Earl Ivery, Sr., "Flashlight"-"Monk" departed this life on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 11:49 p.m. at the age of 64. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, April 19, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. James Earl Ivery was born to the parents of Henry and Mary Ivery on April 27th, 1959, in Amherst Tx. James (Flashlight) Ivery received his education from Amherst Independent School District in 1977. He accepted Christ at an early age under leadership of the late Rev C.L. Harris of New Hope Baptist Church. James married Wynnie Wormly in 1978, and from this union they had 4 beautiful children together. James received his ordained ministry license under late Rev Ford Jennings at New Hope Baptist Church.

James was employed with Helmerich & Payne for over 10 year and later received his Journeyman License as a plumber for TD Industries in Dallas Tx and continued out his work. James obtained the name "Flashlight" in high school after the group Parliament song "Flashlight”. James enjoyed watching college football and pro football. He was a huge Patrick Mahomes, Texas Tech and Kansas City Chiefs fan. James also loved having conversations about the bible with family and friends. One thing to remember as the Parliament stated in the song "Flashlight" Everybody has a little light under the sun.

James is preceded in death by his mother Mary Sayles, father Henry Ivery, granddaughter Zariah Ivery, brothers Albert “Buck” Ivery and Kenneth Ivery.

James leaves behind to cherish his memory; his daughters Ann Ivery and Mishelle Ivery, his sons James Ivery, Jr. (LaDawn) and Issac Ivery, his sisters Doris Price (James), Brenda Hawthorne, Erma Hall (Anthony), Patrcia Neal, Wander Fletcher (Melvin), and Marilyn Osby (Ellis), his brothers Charles White (Franzetta), Larry Joe Hyman, Mark Fluellen, Kevin Fluellen, and Danny Fluellen, grandchildren Karimah Caldwell, Asaiah Williams, Juleius Kyles, Jr., Kaleb Wilson, Jamerson Ivery, Annya Kyles, MaKayla Ivery, Demari’A Kyles, ReNya Wilson, LaFaye Burleson, and Alaia Ivery, great grandchildren K’Lanii Kyles and Juleius Kyles, III, his special friend Kita Hightower, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
