Horace Cleavland, Jr., 72, of Lubbock, TX gained his wings on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, August 23, 2024, at 11 am at First Progressive Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 4pm to 6pm at Griffin Mortuary. He was a Deacon of St. John Baptist Church, Lamesa, TX under the leadership of Pastor Jermaine Cleavland. Horace was born on March 12, 1952, to Esther Lee and Horace “TC” Cleavland in Lubbock, TX. He attended LISD, graduated from Estacado High School. He went to Texas Tech, American Commerical College, and completed his electrician and HVAC license. He went back to college at 60 years old at Eastfield College in Mesquite, TX, graduated as Valedictorian receiving his bachelor’s degree. He worked in property management from 1982 to 2019, and retired there after. Horace Cleavland, Jr., served in the U.S. Army in 1973, received an Honorable Discharge until completion of the U.S. Army, 1975. In 1978, Horace Cleavland married the love of his life Glenda Faye Howard. They were married for 45 years.
Horace is preceded in death by his parents Esther Lee Cleavland and Horace "TC" Cleavland.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 45 years Glenda Fay Cleavland, his three sons Ervin R. Howard (Wanda), Shaffery L. Cleavland (Cyla), Horace Cleavland, III, and Korey M. Cleavland all of Lubbock, TX, his two daughters Latasha L. Cleavland (Andy Atkinson) and Azsariha (Zae) Cleavland, his sisters Rose M. Wheeler, Estelle Cleavland, Barbara Cleavland, and Rita J. Cleavland all of Lubbock, TX, his brothers Jl C. Cleavland (Lady May) of Waco, TX and Robert Cleavland (Lena) of Lubbock, TX, 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his mother-n-law Mrs. Ruth J. Hubbard, his sister-in-law Imesia J. Howard (Greg), his brother-in-law Troy Howard (Genette), and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
