Gloria Mitchell

Friday morning, July 11, 2025 our beloved mother, sister, daughter and friend stepped across the threshold from mortal life to immorality: Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 19th, 2025, at 11 am at New Millennium Baptist Church. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.

Gloria Jean Mitchell was the daughter of Ervin and Willie Mae Mitchell. She was born on December 2, 1954 in Taylor, Texas. Gloria was a born again Christian and attended the Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Bobby Pegues, Jr., brother Marvin Craig Mitchell, second husband James Matthews, and sister Shirley Ann Roddy ;

Gloria received her formal education in the Lubbock Independent School District and received her Nursing Assistant Certification from South Plains College. Gloria spent her life working in the nursing field. She worked over twenty years at Covenant Hospital, she worked at numerous nursing homes and also provided private care. Gloria's passion was helping the sick whenever she could, during the last months of her life she focused her efforts on friends and family who were sick.

Gloria was kind hearted, generous to a fault and would give you her very last if she saw you in need. Gloria loved people, especially loved her family and wanted to make sure they were all doing well. She spent a great deal of her time looking out for her brother Bobby. She made sure he would get to his doctor appointments and that he had something to eat. She would always cook big holiday dinners and feed anyone who wanted to eat.

Gloria leaves to cherish her memory ; her daughter Christy Pegues of Lubbock, TX. Four sisters Evelyn Asare (E. Kwame) Conyers, GA, Glenda Mitchell of Lubbock ,TX, Delores Adams and Wanda Kay Mitchell of Oklahoma City, OK. Four brothers Donald Mitchell, Bobby Mitchell, Ray Dale Roddy all of Lubbock, TX and LeRoy Mitchell of Odessa, TX. One aunt Eldin Phillips of Elgin, TX. eight nieces, thirteen nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
