Gerry DeWayne Taylor, age 65, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, after a brief illness. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, May 8, 2026, at 1 pm at Englewood Cemetery, Slaton under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Viewing will be held Thursday, May 7, 2026 from 4 pm to 6 pm at Griffin Mortuary. Gerry DeWayne Taylor was born on May 25, 1960, in Lubbock, Texas to the union of Herbert Hammons and Mattie Taylor. He was raised in Slaton, Texas with Lillian Martin, his grandmother and Sidro Martine (grandfather).
Gerry moved to Lubbock, Texas after graduating from Slaton High School. He was an employee of Plains Co-op Oil Mill until his health failed. Gerry was a devoted son to his mother, he chose not to marry or have children while he was taking care of his mother and younger siblings. Gerry was baptized at an early age. He changed and started studying as a Jehovah Witness until his death. Gerry loved the Dallas Cowboys and all sports. His greatest joy was his family. He was kind hearted and always willing to help anyone that needed it.
He is preceded in death by his father Herbert Hammons, his mother Mattie Taylor, his grandmother Lillian Martin, his grandfather Sidro Martin, his sister Shirley Dobbins, his brothers Kenneth Taylor and Corrila Hammons.
He is survived by his sisters Patricia Larry, Laura Hammons, Sarah Hammons, and Crystal Dobbins, his brothers James Dobbins, Danny Dobbins, Robert Dobbins, Robert Taylor, and Herbert Hammons, 9 nieces, 7 nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
