Gene Wayne Richards formerly of Dora, New Mexico, 69, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas, his home for the past 3 years. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10 am MDT/11 am CDT at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Dora, New Mexico under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.

Gene, the youngest of three children, was born to Mack and Elizabeth Richards on December 2, 1954, in Portales, New Mexico. After graduating from Dora High School in 1972, Gene farmed in Roosevelt County with his dad for more than 40 years. He loved sports and was a very good 3rd baseman for his fast-pitch softball team for many years. He loved hunting dove and quail, and taught his two sons to shoot and hunt early in their lives, In his latter years, he spent lots of time watching old westerns, and could almost recite what each character was saying since he watched Gunsmoke, Wagon Train, and the Rifleman over and over.

 Later, he was married to Nita Barden, and her children became his.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents Mack and Elizabeth Richards, his brother Steven Richards; and his wife Nita Richards.

Gene is survived by his two sons: Jason Richards (Angela) of Muleshoe, Texas and Kendall Richards (Ashley) of Wolforth, Texas, his stepdaughters Amber Maul (Roland) of Wolforth, Texas, and Chelsie Braden (Ron) of Crest View, Florida, his stepson Eric Braden (Patie) of Lubbock, Texas, his sister Jeanette Richards of Lubbock, Texas, his grandchildren Baylor Richards, Sergio Maul (Angela), Emmory Maul, Gabriella Maul(Arvin), Teague Braden, Ryleigh Braden, Morgan Brade, Maya Montesinos, and Audrey Kelsay, his great-granddaughter Emi-Ren Mactah; his nephew Michael Richards, his granddog Jett Grace, and a host of other relatives and friends.
