Eugene Morris, Sr.

Eugene Morris, Sr. 84, of Lubbock, Texas passed away on July 15, 2023. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Baptist Church. Private Disposition under the director of Griffin Mortuary. Viewing will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary. He was born on September 30, 1938, in Lubbock, Texas. Eugen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Eugene was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and never lost hope that “this was going to be the season.” He married the love of his life, Mary J. Morris, on August 5, 1977, in Lubbock, to this union Christopher Eugene Morris was born. Eugene happily embraced the role of a father to Charles, Michael, Sharon, Shawn, and Teresa. After graduating from Dunbar High School 1956, Eugene enlisted in the Navy and served in the Armed Services Navy Division from 1956 to 1961. He dedicated four years of his life to serving his country. Upon returning home, Eugene worked at Methodist Hospital as an Orderly and later joined Kimbells Foods, where he worked for 20 years. Eugene will be remembered for his passion for watching the Dallas Cowboys, shooting pool, and playing dominoes. He cherished these hobbies and enjoyed spending time with family and friends engaged in these activities. He is preceded in death by his father, Tyree Morris, Sr., mother, Clara O’Neal Morris, brothers, Tyree Morris, Jr., and Dennis Saunders, and son Charles White. Eugene leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his wife, Mary J. Morris, sons Eugene Morris, Jr., David Morris, Christopher Eugene Morris, Michael White, and Shawn Childress; daughters Audrey Jones, Sharon White, and Teresa Childress; sisters Shirley Canady and George Ann Hereford, brother, Lawrence O’Neal, a host of nieces and nephews. Eugene was also a proud grandfather of twenty-four children and seventeen great-grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
