Erma Gene Sims McCuen

Erma Gene Sims McCuen, 79, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Greater St. James Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary.

Erma Gene was born to the late Jessie T and Glouris Sims on December 18th, 1944. She received her elementary and secondary education from Matador, Texas. She moved to Lubbock, Texas where she continued her education at Dunbar High School. She met and married Arthur McCuen, Jr. on May 27, 1967. To this union, they had one child, Van Ray McCuen. She worked for Texas Instrument for 20 plus years before they closed the doors. She also worked for Lubbock ISD and Home Health Care of Lubbock until she retired.

Erma received Christ at an early age under the pastorship of Reverend Jones in Matador, Texas. She loved the Lord and served him every chance she got. She was a faithful member of Greater St. James Baptist Church here in Lubbock, Texas, for over 45 years, and was appointed as one of the mothers of the church. Her son and her grandkids were her life, if they were happy, she was happy. She loved her family and there was nothing she would not do for them.

She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur McCuen Jr, her father Jessie T Sims; her mother Glouris Sims; one sister Joyce Roberson; her brothers Ernest B Sims, Herbert Sims, Sr., Don Ray Sims, Sr., and Carlton Sims, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Van Ray McCuen (Lashonda), Lubbock, TX; sisters, Jessie Mae Brown, Matador, TX, Jewell Thompson (James), Alvarado, TX, Glouris Long (Robert), Plainview, TX, Paulette McGavisk, Dumas, TX, and Vivian Campbell (Charlie), Midland, TX; brothers, Jessie Sims, Jr., Matador, TX, Forrest Sims (Lori), Pueblo, CO., and Clayton Sims (Deborah), Amarillo, TX; 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
