Erma Giddings

April 7, 1929 — February 17, 2025

Lubbock

Erma Lee Giddings, 95, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11 am at Faith First House of Hope. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Erma Lee Giddings began writing her life’s story on April 7, 1929, and gracefully completed her final chapter on February 17th, when she transitioned to her heavenly home.

Born to the parentage of Lorene and Jabo Brown in Frisco, TX, Erma was one of 11 children. She grew up in a home filled with love, faith, and the values that would shape her into the remarkable woman she became.

In 1950, Erma married the love of her life, John Aaron Giddings, and together they built a life rooted in faith and family. Shortly after their union, they relocated to Lubbock, TX, where they raised their children and established a lasting legacy of love and service.

A pillar of her community, Erma was one of the founding members of Faith Tabernacle COGIC under the leadership of the Late Freddy Clark. For 68 years, she served faithfully, dedicating her time and talents to the church she loved so dearly. She was an integral part of testimony service, a committed usher, the superintendent of Sunday School, and a mighty prayer warrior. Her unwavering faith and devotion were evident in everything she did. Her favorite scripture, Psalms 23, provided her with strength and guidance, while her favorite song, “Bless That Wonderful Name”, was a melody that echoed the joy of her spirit.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents, Jabo and Lorene Brown; her sisters, Irene Thompson and Sylvia Perry; and her brothers, David Brown, Bob Brown, O.B. Brown, Titus Brown, Thomas Brown, Herbert Brown, and Billy Ray Brown.

She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, David J. Chester Sr.; her son, John Wesley Giddings Sr.; her grandson, John Wesley Giddings Jr.; and her great-granddaughter, Dreya Dial.

Erma’s legacy continues through the generations she leaves behind. She is survived by her devoted children: Claudette Daniels Lubbock, TX, Vickie Chester Garland, TX, and Greg Giddings (Holly) Lubbock, TX. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished friends who will forever carry her love in their hearts.

Erma Lee Giddings was a woman of faith, strength, and unwavering love. She was a beacon of light to her family, a guiding force in her church, and a source of wisdom and kindness to all who knew her. Her journey on this earth may have ended, but her spirit will live on in the lives of those she touched.

Though we will miss her dearly, we find peace in knowing she has received her heavenly reward, and we take comfort in the words of scripture:

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” – Matthew 25:21.
