Douglas Kelly Young

Douglas Kelly Young, "Chick" 55, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Celebration of Life Services will be held Monday, July 13, 2026, at 10 am at Abernathy Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Douglas Kelly Young “ Chick” was born in Hale County, Texas to Arnie Faye Sanders on September 12, 1970. He attended Abernathy Public Schools from 4 years old to Graduation in May of 1989. Douglas worked as a Laborer at Simmon Pump until his illness. He accepted Christ at an early age while attending White River Youth Camp. He was a member of Abernathy Church of Christ. He loved and had fond memories of his Joy Bus experiences, Church and Sunday School. He was very athletic, playing all sports from Little Dribblers and Little League Baseball and participated in all school sports activities.

He loved being outdoors, Pit Bull Dogs and all kinds of animals. His hobbies were cooking and believe it or not baking too. Douglas was an Avid hunter and an excellent marksman. He was very caring and loving always willing to help and care for his family if and when the need arose. He was a very vital part when his grandparents and uncles health failed until their death. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He became ill and departed this life on July 12, 2026.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, A.L. "Shorty" and Minnie Mae Sanders, Sisters; Shemeka Jones, Simone Young, Rhonda Shirl Jones.

He is survived by, his mother, Arnie Faye Harris, Grandmother, Lovie Mae Morgan. His brothers: Darrell K. Young of Dalhart, Texas, Dewayne K. Young of Lubbock, Texas, Spurgeon Danielle Young, Billy B.J. Young and Roderick Young all of Levelland, Texas. His Sisters: Shenia Young of Austin, Texas, Angela "Bip" Blair of Lubbock, Texas, Demetra Young both of Levelland, Texas, Shantana Young, Della Young of Post, Texas, LaWanda Young and Letiua Jones both of Dallas, Texas.
