Mr. Charles Johnson, 71, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023.. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 at Griffin Mortuary from 4 to 6 p.m. Mr. Charles Johnson was born in Corsicana TX, to Mr. Frank Johnson Sr.and Mrs. Earlene Johnson on January 31, 1952. He was married to Linda Johnson on November 24, 1974 and to the union was born 3 children Beatrice Johnson, Charlene Johnson, and the eldest of the 3 Christi Taylor who preceded him in death. He remarried to Joyce E. Johnson on September 10, 1999. Charles attended Abernathy High School where he achieved many accolades and was very well known for his athletic abilities especially in football. He was also crowned Mr. AHS. As an adult Charles Johnson became an aircraft Mechanic and worked in that field for 35 plus years. He began his career at Reese Air Force Base as a janitor but was quickly promoted to the crew line for his expertise. Charles Johnson later relocated to Wichita Falls, TX and worked for Sheppard Air Force Based for 23 years. Charles Johnson was a hard working man that loved his family and would do anything for his children. Charles had 18 siblings. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mrs. Earlene Johnson and Frank Johnson Sr. his daughter Christi Taylor, his siblings brothers Frank Johnson Jr, Johnny Johnson, and Ernest Johnson, sister Pearline Johnson. He leaves to mourn his wife Joyce Johnson, his daughters Beatrice Johnson and Charlene Johnson both of Lubbock, TX, living brothers JD Johnson (Cookie) of Lubbock TX, Rodney Johnson of Clovis NM, Tommie Johnson of Portales NM, James Johnson of Lubbock TX, Curtis Johnson of Lubbock TX, Bobbie Ray Johnson of Clovis NM, sisters Ollie “lu” Bible (Charlie Ray) of Lubbock, TX, Melody Williams also of Lubbock, TX, Brenda Johnson of Denton, TX, and Billie Cooper (Chester) of Lewisville, TX, his grandchildren Jeanette Scarborough, Chenir Gardner, Xarian Taylor, Desmond Gardner, Zakyya Taylor, and Nevaeh Taylor, 10 Great grandchildren Vernon Scarborough, Javion Scarborough, Jaliyah Scarborough, Wynter Scarborough, Ja'nayshia Scarborough, Ja'lani Scarborough, Zaedyn Taylor, Gracen Taylor, Kaiden Taylor, and Amora Gardner, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
