Charles Kelcie Hobdy, 69 of Lubbock, departed this life on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023. Celebration of LIfe Service will be held Monday, July 31st, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Lyons Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Viewing will be held Sunday, July 30th, 2023 at Griffin Mortuary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Charles was the baby of 5 children. He was born to Willie Samuel and Willie Myrtle Hobdy, November 15th 1953. He graduated Dunbar High School in 1970 at the age of 16. He enlisted in the United States Airforce, where he played trumpet in the band and was later honorably discharged. Charles loved his family, playing golf, coaching his sons, spending time with his grandchildren, hanging out playing cards, and sho nuff his Linda Fae. Family was the most important thing to him, besides keeping his shoes and car clean. Charles worked with the community over the years, captivating the hearts of many through his work as a drug counselor with MHMR, program coordinator with the Lubbock Housing Authority, and finally as your neighborhood car salesman. He could sell paper to a tree and was a man with a brilliant mind. He gave his life to Christ under the leadership of Pastor AL Davis at St Luke Baptist church as a boy. Upon returning to Lubbock in 1987, he continued his Christian journey under the leadership of the son, Pastor Wendell Davis after joining in 1988. Charles served on the brotherhood and was a faithful choir member known for his lead on See What the Lord Has Done and One more Time. Charles married his forever sweetheart March 9, 2008. To that 40 year union, they shared 1 son. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Samuel and Willie Myrtle Hobdy; his brothers Floyd Price and Alton Hobdy; his daughters Antoinette and Kammie Hobdy. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Linda Hobdy; sisters Maryland Young and Robbie Edwards; sons Mark Chambers, Chuck Beavers, Chris Hobdy, and Anthony Lockett; daughters Nefertiti May (Tony), Monica Davis (John), Angela Webster, Jessika Ogden (Kris), Karyn Steele, Summer Mason, Chelsea Watson, and Kimmie Watson-Hobdy; 38 grand children, 8 great grandchildren, and a host of other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
