Burnett Sanders, 87, gained his wings on Thursday, August 13, 2026. A Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11 am at Greater St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Friday, August 21, 2026 from 4 pm to 6 pm at Griffin Mortuary. The pages of this book began for Burnett Sanders when he was born in Hugo, OK to Willard and Lillie Dillard Sanders. The family relocated to New Deal, Texas.
He was raised under strong spiritual principles and family values. He attended New Deal Colored school. He moved to Lubbock, Texas and married JoAnn Curry, and three children born of the union, Ronald Darrell Sanders, Anthony Lamar Sanders, and Samantha Ann Sanders. He was a devoted member of Greater Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents Williard and Lillie Dillard Sanders, his sisters Martha Sanders and Oleta Louise Thomas, his brothers Roy Gene Sanders and Otis Earl Sanders.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters Samantha Ann Sanders, NaTasha Parker, and Cathy Reed, his sons Ronald Darrell Sanders, Anthony Lamar Sanders, Donald Young, Ronald Young, and Bo Skeak, his sisters Willie Mae (Winford) Mullins, Ambry Shepherd, Lynda Drones, Mary (Jessie) Hood, and Stirlla Sanders, his brothers Robert (Daphne) Sanders and Roy Sanders, his aunt Carrie Humphrey, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a very close lie a brother nephews James Harold Sanders, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
