Billie Marie Cooper departed this life on July 20th, 2024. Viewing will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10 a.m. St. James Baptist Church and celebration of life service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Billie Marie Cooper was born in Portales, NM, to the parentage of Mr. Frank Johnson Sr. and Earlene Johnson on August 29th, 1943. Billie had 18 siblings. Billie married Chester Cooper Sr. in 1958, and 10 children were born to this union.
Billie attended school in Ropesville and New Home, Texas. As an adult, she began her professional career at Texas Instruments in Lubbock, Texas. She later relocated to Dallas and retired from Raytheon, a subsidiary of Texas Instruments after more than thirty years. After retirement, Billie entered the workforce again to work for Lewisville High School and Walmart, where she retired a second time. Billie was a hard-working, smart, courageous woman who had a passion for reading; she loved her family dearly. Billie Marie Cooper departed this life on July 20th, 2024.
Billie is preceded in death by her mother Mrs. Earlene Johnson, father Frank Johnson Sr., her eldest daughter of the ten, Linda Montes, her five brothers Frank Johnson, Jr., Charles Johnson, Earnest Johnson, Johnnie Johnson, and Tommy Johnson, and her sister Pearl Johnson
She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 sons Chester Cooper (Norma) of Lubbock TX and Billy Cooper (Bertha) of Ft. Worth TX, 7 daughters, Glinda Cooper, Debra Byrd (Wilmer), Patrisha Beauregard, and Margaret Wilson (George) all of Lubbock, TX, Mary Williams (Doyle) of Jonesboro Louisiana, Erma Huey (Bobby, Sr.) and Darlene Cooper also of Lubbock TX, 9 living siblings, 5 brothers: JD Johnson (Gloria) of Lubbock, Rodney Johnson of Clovis NM, James Johnson of Lubbock TX, Curtis Johnson of Lubbock TX, Bobbie Ray Johnson of Clovis NM, her 3 sisters Ollie “Lu” Bible (Charlie Ray) and Melody Williams all of Lubbock, TX, Brenda Johnson (Robbie) of Denton, TX, Billie Marie Cooper has 29 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
