Betty Lincoln, 95, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 26, 2026. A Celebration of Life Service honoring her life and legacy will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greater St. Luke Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Betty Lincoln was born on June 18, 1931, to Jerome and Mary Lou Brooks in Big Sandy, Texas. In that same year, the Empire State Building was just opening its doors in New York City. But many miles south, in the small town of Big Sandy, God was preparing to give the world a woman whose life would leave a lasting mark on everyone blessed to know her.
Betty was one of eleven children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband R.J Lincoln, son Paul Ray Johnson Sr., grandson Paul Ray Johnson Jr., her brothers and sisters: Zetha Watley, Floyd Brooks, Quebie Brooks, Alma "Jean" Sedberry, Maxine Childs, Arthur Brooks, Jerry Brooks, and Robert Brooks. She leaves behind two brothers who continue to carry her memory: Howard Brooks, 81 (Shirley Brooks), and Tommy Brooks, 84. Her grandchildren Tamasha Perryman and Jermaine Perryman and a multitude of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who carry Betty's family legacy into future generations.
Betty graduated from high school in Dallas, Texas, and went on to live a life that was anything but ordinary. For several years, she worked as a truck driver, after her years on the road, Betty began working as a bus driver aide for Durham Bus Services, where she had the opportunity to care for and assist handicapped children. She served in that role with the same patience, compassion, and caring spirit that she brought to her family and everyone around her, continuing in that work until she retired.
Betty and R. Lincoln made their home on Beech Ave, where together they built a long: lasting life of love. Their years together were a beautiful testament to companionship, commitment, and enduring love.
To know Betty was to know that she was so much more than the roles she carried. She was a mother, a sister, a wife, and a friend. She loved being surrounded by the laughter, innocence, and joy of children, and she found happiness in simply being around the people she loved.
Betty was a devoted Christian. Her faith was not simply something she spoke about, it was a part of who she was. For more than 40 years, she was a faithful member of St. Luke Greater Missionary Baptist Church, where her presence became a familiar and cherished part of the church family.
Betty's life spanned more than nine decades. She witnessed generations come and go, faced the changes of a world that looked very different from the one she was born into, and continued to be a source of strength and love for her family and friends.
Although our hearts are heavy with her passing, we can find comfort knowing that Betty lived a life filled with faith, family, love, perseverance, and memories that will never fade. The hands that worked hard, the heart that loved deeply, and the faith that carried her. through life have now found their rest.
We will miss her voice. We will miss her smile. We will miss her presence. But most of all, we will miss simply having Betty here.
Her life was a blessing. Her memory is a treasure. And her legacy will live on through every person who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Rest peacefully, Ma Betty. You have fought the good fight, you have finished your race, and your faith remains. Until we meet again, you will forever live in our hearts.
