On May 24, 2025, Bessie V. Walker was called to her Heavenly Home at the age of 79. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 31st, 2025, at 11 am at Greater St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Friday, May 30th, 2025, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Griffin Mortuary. Bessie Walker was born on September 14, 1945, in Spur, Texas, the youngest of five children to Freddy Mae Campbell and Willie Campbell. She received her education at the Haynes School of Spur, Texas.
While in Spur, Texas Bessie Walker met and married Windell Walker in 1965. To this union 6 children were born, Janice, Don, Robert, Stephen, James, and Micheal.
Bessie Walker was employed with the Lubbock Independent School District. Upon retiring, she also worked for Kmart, and MHMR. She was a Home Health Provider for Rockhouse Health Services.
Bessie Walker was a dedicated member of Greater St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Usher Unit II, and also a member of Mission, a secretary under Mrs. Annia Sanders. That was part of the committee that started the Rose Garden, and also the Cross on Greater St. Luke.
Those proceeding Bessie Walker in death are her parents Freddy Mae Campbell (Mother), Willie Campbell (father), two brothers Neiland Coleman and Lehman Campbell, three sisters Willie Mae Tillman, Alice Scarlett, and Patricia Campbell, and one son Michael D. Walker, and one grandson Veshan Walker, one great grandson Leiren Williams.
Bessie Walker leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, husband of 59 years Windell D. Walker, daughter Janice M. Walker Lubbock, TX, sons Windell D. Walker, Jr., (Janet) Lubbock,TX, Robert H. Walker Garland, TX, Stephen J. Walker Amarillo, TX, James D. Walker, (Chaitra) Lubbock, TX, 13 grandchildren Tomekia, Tishina, Tevanta, Brandon, Brandee, Quincy, Jose, Isaiah, Erin, Daerin, Jamekia, James Jr., and Marquavis, 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved her dearly.
