A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 11 am at Ford Memorial. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Avis Gray was born to Jeffothel Rhodes and Hubert Yateson on July 28, 1955, in Roxton, Texas. She moved to Lubbock with her mom, where she completed her education and graduated from Dunbar High School, where she met the love of her life, Oscar Gray. They married and had three children, Latasha Gaston, Shaneka Gray, and Quailon Gray. Avis worked as a caregiver for over 30 years and ran her own housekeeping business for many years as well. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Shaneka Gray, and her son-in-law, Brandit Scallion, her 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Avis Gray was loved by many, both family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her spouse Oscar Gray Jr., her daughter LaTasha Gaston, her son Quailon Gray, her father Huebert Yateson, and her mother Jeffothel Morrison.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter Shaneka Gray, her sisters Anita Yates, Shirley Andrews, and Virginia Gail Venious, her grandchildren Devontae Gray, QuaVondrick Gray, TyNeshia Dickson, Amari Gray, DeJhori Gray, Zakia Barrientes, and Jaylon Gray, her great grandchildren DeVontae Gray Jr. and Anyra Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
