Albertine Byrd, 74, departed this life on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023. Visitations will be held Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at Griffin Mortuary Chapel from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Albertine Byrd’s life began when she was born at Mercy Hospital on April 25th, 1949. She was born to O. C. and Nettie Ann Slay in Slaton, Texas. In 1969, Albertine married Jerry Byrd then to this union two lovely daughters were born. Albertine worked for several years at Furr’s Cafeteria and also Farmer Coop Compass, cotton Gin of Lubbock, Texas. Albertine was known to her family as “Mother Love”. She had a great personality and a sense of humor. She had a passion for singing, dancing, fishing, and talking lots of “BULL SPIT.” LOL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Byrd; parents, O.C. Slay and Nettie Ann Slay; sister, Nadine Anderson; and uncle, Willie Tyrone. She leaves to cherish her memory; two daughters, Sharon Byrd Travenia and Brenda K. Byrd both of Lubbock, Texas; her loving niece, Staci Anderson of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Tony Cobbs, Levone Henderson, III, Tyshanna Davis, and Brenkashia Gibbs; three great- grandchildren, MaLeah Wilson, Devin Davis, and Trey Stevenson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
